I know that the Lord usually is willing

I do know that God is good (1 Chronicles 16:34). He is a caring Father (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17), a wonderful Friend (John 15:15), and a loving God (1 John 4:8). I know that my God has a good track record – He’s been faithful before and He will be faithful again, the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8) – even if the outcome is not what I prayed for or desired. I know that He knows what is best for me because He knows me intimately (Psalm 139). I know that He works all things together for my good (Romans 8:28).
 I also know that He usually is willing.
He’s been willing for over twenty years to wake me up each morning, even though I don’t deserve another breath and I usually go to bed the night before just assuming that I will awake again. He’s been willing to provide me with more food and clothing than I need, even though I often feel entitled to these things and go without thanking Him for them. He’s given me a place to live, even though I walk inside the doors to my home each evening, taking for granted the fact that 400-500 people in my city alone have no roof to cover their heads, and I do. I complained about the rain today, even though I didn’t have to walk outside in it or sleep in it or try to find some sort of shelter away from it. I have a wonderful family who I love dearly, yet often I complain more to Him about their distance rather than thanking God for their relationship. I have a loving husband who I think is way too good for me, but God has given him to me anyway. I have a job that provides a sustainable income and that I really enjoy, though often I complain about having to go to work.
God, in His infinite wisdom and goodness, is not always willing to give us what we want or what we think we need. However, there are areas in all of our lives where He has willed to provide for us and care for us more than we could ever deserve.
If you woke up this morning, that is God’s grace to you. If you ate one meal today, that is God’s grace to you. If you had a job to go to today, that is God’s grace to you. If you had transportation, a roof over your head, and you anticipate a warm bed to sleep in tonight… That is God’s grace to you. He does not have to be willing to give us these things, yet He is because He is a gracious, merciful, loving Father.
“The Lord is gracious and compassionate,

    slow to anger and rich in love.
The Lord is good to all;

    He has compassion on all He has made.”
-Psalm 145:8-9
